Bogdan C. Simionescu and Victor Sahini were the honor guests of 2006 edition of the Symposium "Contemporary Chemistry Conferences" with the theme: "Trends in development of modern chemical industry. Influence of chemistry over sustainable development of society".
Member of the Romanian Academy, Professor Bogdan C. Simionescu is a senior researcher at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry "P. Poni" Iasi and also director of the Institute, and of the Excellence Center "Polymers" - Technical University "Gh Asachi" Iasi. He leads interdisciplinary training and research platform "High performance polymeric materials for medicine, pharmacy, microelectronics, energy storage / information, environmental protection (MATMIP)" of the Technical University "Gh Asachi ".
In 1975 he earned his doctorate from the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, with the thesis "Aggregation of dye molecules under the influence of polymers (Polymer Induced Aggregation of Dye Molecules)". Over time, Mr. Bogdan C. Simionescu was visiting professor of several higher education institutions in the world, such as Kyoto University (Japan), University of Mulhouse (France), University of Freiburg (Germany), University of Dunkerque (France), Centre for Research in Polymer Chemistry, Zabrze (Poland), Higher National School of Mines in Paris, CEMEF - Sophia Antipolis (France).
Among the awards received by the professor there is also the Romanian Academy Award (1985), for the series of works in plasma-induced polymerization and solutions of high molecular weight polymers.
Professor Simionescu is a member of the Association of Scientists in Romania, the Society of Polymer Science in Romania, the Chemical Society of Romania and the Romanian Society for Biomaterials. He is part of the editorial committee of important scientific publications: "Synthetic Polymer Journal", "Revue Roumaine de Chimie", "Carbohydrate Polymers", "Environmental Engineering and Management Journal", and also "Plastics Magazine". Mr. Simionescu has published over 280 scientific papers (including over 230 published in international journals), 2 books (in collaboration), 2 patents. He held over 100 conferences in Europe, USA, Canada, and Japan.
The research areas covered by the professor are: radical polymerization, plasma-induced polymerization, unconventional polymerization, block and graft copolymers, functional polysiloxane and siloxane copolymer, solutions of polymers with high molecular weights, solutions of macromolecular compounds, complex macromolecular architectures, and multifunctional polymer materials.
